Happy Endings Are For Saps

So, yesterday I found an earwig in an empty pack of gum. Instead of killing it, I closed the pack back up, and left it there, since I can't stand the crunching sound of killing bugs. Maybe I should have just thrown it away, who knows? Anyway, a few minutes later, another earwig comes crawling out from behind a movie tape, and I kill it, by hitting it repeatedly with the movie tape. But then I wondered, what if it was just coming to rescue that trapped earwig, and I completely destroyed the story by killing the hero?
